My First Green Smoothie!

Okay. I'll admit it. I have been dying to try a green smoothie. I'll also admit that I love to create food out of whatever I can find in the fridge. This morning, these two parts of my personality came together!

We had over-bought apples at the farmers market and under-ate some cucumbers and salad grees and were left with this. Cut up in the blender with some water.....

3 Apples, a head of slightly wilted Romaine hearts, a cucumber, some flaxseed meal, and a cup of water became my first green smoothie!

Okay, so it's brown. And a bit too thick for my liking. I'm not sure if that is because it was blended instead of juiced, because I didn't put much water, or... something else. But all in all, not bad!

  1. I never juice everything in a green smoothie. I will usually juice the apples if I use them and use more water. I don't like them so thick tha it is hard to drink- just keep adding water until you have the consistancy you want. I always use some frozen fruit as well. Our favorite right now is 1 large bunch kale, 1 1/2 c frozen pineapple, 1 frozen banana, 1/2c strawberries, enough water for consistancy of you choice. We will also add the following depending on our mood: stevia, bee pollen, green superfood, flax or chia(these will thicken it), fresh coconut meat, coconut water- whatever we have:). If I don't want the fiber I skip the Smoothie and juice. My fav juice is watermelon, lots of cucumer and lime.

  2. Nikki-
Thanks for the tips! I'm still experimenting, and the fruit ones are coming out pretty well. Hopefully there will be a successful update soon!

    Thanks,
    Jackie
